Thursday, Jan 18, 2017: President Donald Trump is scheduled to visit Allegheny County near Pittsburgh on Thursday, and he said he will support the Republican candidate for a vacant House seat while he's in town.
Trump tweeted, "Will be going to Pennsylvania today in order to give my total support to RICK SACCONE, running for Congress in a Special Election (March 13). Rick is a great guy. We need more Republicans to continue our already successful agenda!"
The White House later corrected Trump's tweet, saying that the president's visit was an official event to promote his agenda, and not to campaign for Saccone. A campaign event would require that taxpayers be reimbursed for some of the expenses.
Trump will visit H&K Equipment, an industrial equipment company in North Fayette Township. Senior White House officials say he will tout the recently passed tax overhaul and its impact on the economy and for small businesses.
